  • Yield: 4 servings

Description

Juicy and flavorful, these authentic German Frikadellen are perfectly seasoned meat patties made with a mix of beef and pork, sautéed onions, and soaked bread. They are pan-fried to perfection, creating a crispy exterior while remaining tender inside. A classic German dish perfect for any meal!

Ingredients

  • ½ lb (250g) ground beef
  • ½ lb (250g) ground pork
  • 1 white bread roll (soaked and squeezed)
  • ¼ cup milk or water
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Soak the bread roll in milk or water for 5–10 minutes, then squeeze out excess liquid.
  2. Sauté the chopped onion in a pan until translucent, then let it cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, pork, soaked bread, sautéed onion, garlic, egg, mustard, parsley, salt, pepper, and paprika. Do not overmix.
  4. With damp hands, shape the mixture into oval or round patties, about ¾ inch thick.
  5. Heat oil or butter in a pan over medium heat. Fry the Frikadellen for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown and fully cooked (internal temperature 160°F/71°C).
  6. Let them rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with mustard, potato salad, or fresh bread rolls!
