Juicy and flavorful, these authentic German Frikadellen are perfectly seasoned meat patties made with a mix of beef and pork, sautéed onions, and soaked bread. They are pan-fried to perfection, creating a crispy exterior while remaining tender inside. A classic German dish perfect for any meal!
Ingredients
- ½ lb (250g) ground beef
- ½ lb (250g) ground pork
- 1 white bread roll (soaked and squeezed)
- ¼ cup milk or water
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika
- 2 tbsp oil or butter (for frying)
Instructions
- Soak the bread roll in milk or water for 5–10 minutes, then squeeze out excess liquid.
- Sauté the chopped onion in a pan until translucent, then let it cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, pork, soaked bread, sautéed onion, garlic, egg, mustard, parsley, salt, pepper, and paprika. Do not overmix.
- With damp hands, shape the mixture into oval or round patties, about ¾ inch thick.
- Heat oil or butter in a pan over medium heat. Fry the Frikadellen for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown and fully cooked (internal temperature 160°F/71°C).
- Let them rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with mustard, potato salad, or fresh bread rolls!
