1 pound ground breakfast sausage

2 1/2 cups whole milk

1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
1 tablespoon butter (for greasing, optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground sausage until fully cooked. Drain excess fat if needed.
3. Sprinkle flour over sausage. Stir and cook for 1 minute.
4. Slowly pour in milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
5. Simmer until gravy thickens, about 4–6 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.
6. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
7. Cut biscuits into quarters and place half into the bottom of the dish.
8. Pour sausage gravy evenly over the biscuits.
9. Top with remaining biscuit pieces.

11. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
