Description

Blackberry Dumplings are a delicious dessert that combines the tartness of blackberries with the softness of dumplings, all smothered in a sweet berry sauce. Perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

For the Dumplings:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

For the Blackberry Sauce:

  • 4 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Blackberry Sauce: In a saucepan, combine blackberries, sugar, lemon juice, and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the berries begin to break down. Optionally, thicken the sauce with cornstarch.
  2. Make the Dumpling Dough: In a mixing bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then add milk and melted butter. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently until combined.
  3. Drop Dumplings Into Sauce: Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, drop dumplings into the simmering blackberry sauce. Cover the pot and let the dumplings cook for 15-20 minutes, or until puffed up and cooked through.
  4. Serve: Use a slotted spoon to remove the dumplings from the sauce. Serve warm with a generous drizzle of the blackberry sauce.
