Description
Blackberry Dumplings are a delicious dessert that combines the tartness of blackberries with the softness of dumplings, all smothered in a sweet berry sauce. Perfect for any occasion!
Ingredients
For the Dumplings:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ⅓ cup milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
For the Blackberry Sauce:
- 4 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Prepare the Blackberry Sauce: In a saucepan, combine blackberries, sugar, lemon juice, and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the berries begin to break down. Optionally, thicken the sauce with cornstarch.
- Make the Dumpling Dough: In a mixing bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then add milk and melted butter. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently until combined.
- Drop Dumplings Into Sauce: Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, drop dumplings into the simmering blackberry sauce. Cover the pot and let the dumplings cook for 15-20 minutes, or until puffed up and cooked through.
- Serve: Use a slotted spoon to remove the dumplings from the sauce. Serve warm with a generous drizzle of the blackberry sauce.
