Ingredients
1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
3 to 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
1/2 tsp lemon zest (optional)
1 to 2 tsp heavy cream (optional)
Instructions
1. Cook the blueberries in a small saucepan over medium heat for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
2. Cool the mixture, then puree until smooth. Strain if desired for a smoother texture.
3. Beat softened butter and cream cheese in a bowl until fluffy (about 3–5 minutes).
4. Add vanilla extract and 3–4 tablespoons of blueberry puree. Mix until incorporated.
5. Slowly add powdered sugar, one cup at a time. Beat well after each addition.
6. Add salt and optional lemon zest. Adjust thickness with powdered sugar or heavy cream.
7. Chill briefly if needed, or use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies.
Notes
Always use cooled blueberry puree to prevent frosting separation.
For the smoothest texture, strain the blueberry puree after blending.
If the frosting is too soft, chill it for 15–20 minutes before piping.
