- 1 pound ziti pasta
- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 4 cups marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley or basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook ziti in salted water until just under al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil. Brown the ground meat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Stir in marinara sauce and let simmer 5–10 minutes. Season to taste.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, half the Parmesan, salt, and optional herbs.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked pasta, half the meat sauce, and half the mozzarella.
- Layer in a greased 9×13″ dish: pasta mix, dollops of ricotta mixture, more sauce. Repeat.
- Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Cover with foil and bake 20 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 10–15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let rest 10 minutes before serving. Garnish if desired.
