Description

These Cheesy Puff Pastry Sausage Pinwheels are a deliciously savory appetizer perfect for parties, brunches, or quick snack ideas. With flaky, golden puff pastry wrapped around juicy sausage and melty cheese, they’re not only easy to make but also packed with flavor. Whether you’re looking for a crowd-pleasing finger food, easy dinner ideas, or a quick breakfast bite, these pinwheels are versatile and freezer-friendly. If you’re short on time and need a no-fuss, easy recipe for entertaining or casual weekday meals, this dish fits the bill perfectly.

Ingredients

1 sheet puff pastry (thawed, cold but pliable)

1/2 pound ground sausage (mild or spicy)

1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese

1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Break it into crumbles, drain excess fat, and allow it to cool slightly.

3. Unfold the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and gently roll it out to smooth any creases.

4. Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheese over the pastry, followed by the cooled sausage. Gently press the filling into the pastry.

5. Starting from one long side, roll the pastry into a tight log. Seal the edge with a little water and refrigerate the log for 15–20 minutes.

6. Slice the log into 1/2-inch rounds and place on the prepared baking sheet, spaced slightly apart.

7. Brush the tops of each pinwheel with the beaten egg.

8. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and puffed.

9. Garnish with chopped parsley, if using.

10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Make sure the sausage is cooled before layering to prevent the pastry from becoming soggy.

Chilling the rolled pastry log before slicing makes it easier to cut clean, even rounds.

For added flavor, try mixing in a little Dijon mustard or Italian seasoning with the cheese.
