Whether you’re looking for easy fall food ideas, quick baking recipes, or a rustic apple dessert, this dish is a standout among easy recipes for all seasons. Ingredients

6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Pinch of salt

3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.

2. Peel, core, and slice apples evenly. Toss them in a large bowl with lemon juice, both sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and a pinch of salt until coated.

3. Transfer the apple filling into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.

4. In a separate bowl, mix oats, flour, sugars, cinnamon, and salt. Add cold butter cubes and blend using a pastry cutter or fork until it resembles coarse crumbs.

5. Evenly sprinkle the crisp topping over the apple mixture.

6. Bake for 40-45 minutes until the topping is golden and filling is bubbly. Loosely cover with foil in the last 10 minutes if browning too quickly.

7. Let the apple crisp rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.

8. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel if desired.

Notes

1. Use a blend of tart and sweet apples for best flavor and texture — Granny Smith with Honeycrisp or Fuji is a great combo.

2. Don’t skip the flour in the apple mix — it thickens the filling and prevents sogginess.

3. For extra crunch, mix chopped pecans or walnuts into the topping.
