Ingredients

2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs

1 ½ cups barbecue sauce

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

Optional: 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or 1 teaspoon hot sauce

Instructions

1. Place the chicken breasts or thighs in the bottom of the crockpot.

2. In a medium bowl, mix together barbecue sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.

3. Pour the sauce over the chicken, spreading it evenly to coat.

4. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or on HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the chicken is fork-tender.

5. Remove the chicken, shred it using two forks, then return it to the crockpot.

6. Stir the shredded chicken into the sauce and let it sit for 10–15 minutes to soak in the flavors.

7. Serve warm on buns, in tacos, over rice, or with your favorite sides.

8. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

Notes

Let the shredded chicken sit in the sauce for 10–15 minutes after mixing for the best flavor absorption.

If your sauce is too thin, leave the lid off the crockpot for the last 30 minutes to thicken it.

Always use thawed chicken to ensure even cooking and food safety in the crockpot.
