This soft, golden-crusted bread is loaded with melted cheese and savory Italian herbs, making it a perfect companion to any meal or a delightful snack on its own. With its rich aroma and gooey texture, each slice brings comforting warmth and bold flavor.
Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 1/4 cups warm water (100–110°F)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
For the Filling:
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
For the Topping:
- 2 tbsp melted butter or olive oil
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- Pinch of sea salt or flaky salt
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the mixture. Stir, then knead until dough is smooth (8–10 minutes by hand or 6–7 minutes in stand mixer).
- Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover and let rise 1 to 1 1/2 hours until doubled in size.
- In a bowl, mix mozzarella, parmesan, oregano, basil, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.
- Punch down dough and roll out into a 1/2-inch thick rectangle.
- Sprinkle cheese mixture evenly over dough. Roll into a log or fold for loaf shape. Pinch to seal.
- Place dough in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise another 30–40 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Brush dough with melted butter/olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Cool slightly, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve warm.
