Ingredients
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
1 double shot espresso or 1/3 cup strong brewed coffee
3/4 cup milk (whole, oat, or almond)
1 pinch ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
1. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and continue to cook until browned and fragrant (about 3–5 minutes). Remove from heat immediately.
2. Brew your espresso or strong coffee while the butter is browning.
3. Heat the milk until steaming (not boiling), then froth using a milk frother, French press, or whisk.
4. In a mug, combine the browned butter and maple syrup. Add espresso and stir well.
5. Pour in the steamed milk, holding back foam with a spoon, then top with foam.
6. Garnish with a pinch of cinnamon or a drizzle of maple syrup if desired.
Notes
Keep a close eye on the butter—it goes from brown to burnt quickly.
Whole milk or barista oat milk creates the best froth for lattes.
Pre-warming your mug helps keep your drink hot longer.
