Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 cup long grain white rice (uncooked)

1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

1 1/2 cups beef broth

1 packet onion soup mix

2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or Gruyère)

1 tablespoon butter (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with a pinch of salt and pepper. Drain excess fat.

3. In a large bowl, mix uncooked rice, French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, and onion soup mix.

4. Stir in the cooked ground beef until fully combined.

5. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.

6. Top with shredded cheese, covering the surface.

7. Cover the dish tightly with foil.

8. Bake for 50–60 minutes, removing the foil during the last 10–15 minutes to brown the cheese.

9. Let the casserole rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Make sure to use uncooked rice; it cooks in the oven and soaks up all the flavor.

Covering the casserole with foil is essential to trap moisture for perfectly cooked rice.

Grate your cheese fresh for the best melting texture and flavor.
