Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 packet active dry yeast
1 cup warm whole milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 large egg
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
Optional: extra butter for serving
Optional: sea salt flakes for garnish
Instructions
1. Combine warm milk and sugar in a small bowl, sprinkle yeast on top, and let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. In a stand mixer, mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture, egg, and softened butter. Knead with dough hook 8–10 minutes until elastic.
3. Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1.5 hours or until doubled.
4. Punch down dough, divide into 12–15 equal portions, and shape into smooth balls.
5. Place rolls in a greased 9×13-inch dish, spaced slightly apart.
6. Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes until puffy and touching.
7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake 18–22 minutes, until golden brown.
8. Brush tops with melted butter and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
1. For an overnight option, refrigerate the dough after the first rise and bring to room temperature before shaping.
2. Always use warm—not hot—milk to activate the yeast without killing it.
3. Brush melted butter on top before and after baking for a rich, golden finish.
