Ingredients
- 1 cup buttermilk pancake mix (or homemade batter)
- 1/2 cup water or milk (adjust as needed for consistency)
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 6 breakfast sausage patties or 1/2 lb sausage crumbles (cooked)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon butter or neutral oil (for greasing skillet)
- Optional: pinch of salt, fresh parsley or chives for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix pancake batter according to package or homemade recipe. Stir in maple syrup.
- Cook and crumble the sausage, or shape patties into small rounds and cook until browned. Set aside.
- Preheat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat and lightly grease with butter or oil.
- Drop 1 tablespoon of batter onto the skillet for each base. Add sausage and a small sprinkle of cheese on top.
- Cover each with another tablespoon of batter. Press gently to seal.
- Cook for 2–3 minutes, until bubbles form and edges are set. Flip and cook another 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
- Transfer to a rack or paper towel to cool slightly before serving.
- Serve warm with extra maple syrup if desired.
