Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
- 8 oz smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, diced
- 12 oz penne or rotini pasta
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1/3 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite kind)
- 2 tbsp real maple syrup
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- In a large deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned, about 3–4 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add diced chicken. Cook until lightly browned and just cooked through, about 4–5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Let spices toast for 30 seconds.
- Pour in chicken broth and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom.
- Add dry pasta and return the sausage to the pan. Stir well.
- Cover and simmer for 12–14 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender and most liquid is absorbed.
- Stir in BBQ sauce and maple syrup. Cook uncovered for another 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats everything.
- Let rest for 2–3 minutes off heat before serving. Garnish with parsley or red pepper flakes if desired.
