Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 8 oz smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, diced
  • 12 oz penne or rotini pasta
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite kind)
  • 2 tbsp real maple syrup
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned, about 3–4 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add diced chicken. Cook until lightly browned and just cooked through, about 4–5 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Let spices toast for 30 seconds.
  5. Pour in chicken broth and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom.
  6. Add dry pasta and return the sausage to the pan. Stir well.
  7. Cover and simmer for 12–14 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender and most liquid is absorbed.
  8. Stir in BBQ sauce and maple syrup. Cook uncovered for another 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats everything.
  9. Let rest for 2–3 minutes off heat before serving. Garnish with parsley or red pepper flakes if desired.
