Ingredients

2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon butter

1 package refrigerated pie crusts

Vegetable oil for frying

Powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar (optional)

Instructions

1. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook for 5–7 minutes until softened. Add cornstarch if desired and cook 1 more minute. Let cool.

2. Roll out pie crusts and cut into 4–5 inch circles. Reroll scraps to cut additional rounds.

3. Place 1–1.5 tablespoons of filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold over and seal edges with a fork.

4. Heat 2 inches of oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry pies 2–3 at a time, cooking each side for 2–3 minutes until golden.

5. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with optional powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar topping.

Notes

Let filling cool before assembling to prevent soggy dough.

Seal pies tightly to avoid leaking during frying.

Reheat leftovers in an air fryer or oven to keep crust crisp.
