Ingredients

For the Steak:

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt

For the Pasta & Sauce:

  • 8 oz pasta (spaghetti or fettuccine)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced or grated
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup pasta water (reserved)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Garnish (Optional):

  • Chopped parsley or green onions
  • Extra chili flakes
  • Toasted sesame seeds
  • Grated parmesan

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Steak: Mix steak slices with soy sauce, olive oil, cornstarch, pepper, and salt. Let it marinate for 10–15 minutes.
  2. Cook the Pasta: Boil pasta in salted water until just shy of al dente. Reserve 1/4 cup of pasta water, then drain.
  3. Sear the Steak: In a hot skillet with oil, sear steak in batches for 1–2 minutes per side. Set aside.
  4. Make the Sauce: Lower heat. Add butter and olive oil to the same pan, followed by garlic. Sauté until fragrant. Stir in brown sugar, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and red pepper flakes.
  5. Combine: Toss pasta into the sauce. Add pasta water to help the sauce cling.
  6. Add the Steak: Return steak to the pan. Toss everything together and heat through.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Top with fresh herbs, sesame seeds, chili flakes, or parmesan.
