Description

This Ground Turkey Chili features savory lean turkey simmered with onion, chili powder, cumin, and garlic powder, along with kidney beans, pinto beans, fire roasted tomatoes, and tomato paste. It’s perfect for busy weeknights, game day gatherings, or meal prepping lunches for the week.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt, adjusted to taste at the end
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 15.5 ounce can red kidney beans, undrained, with the liquid included
  • 15.5 ounce can pinto beans, undrained, with the liquid included
  • 14.5 ounce can fire roasted tomatoes, undrained
  • 6 ounce can tomato paste
  • sour cream, optional garnish
  • shredded cheese, optional garnish
  • chopped parsley, optional garnish

Instructions

  1. Brown the Turkey: Place a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, add the ground turkey, and break it apart with a spoon. Cook for 6-8 minutes, until no pink remains.
  2. Soften the Onion: Add the chopped onion to the pot and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it turns translucent.
  3. Season the Chili: Stir in the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and salt, then cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the Tomatoes and Beans: Stir in the tomato paste, fire roasted tomatoes, red kidney beans, and pinto beans, including all of their liquid.
  5. Simmer: Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, partially cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
